Self treatment with Triggerpoint Therapy

by Bas van Pelt

in self-treatment

One question I get a lot from my patients is: ‘What can I do myself?’ There are many possible answers to that, form dietary advise, exercise or just to take 10 minutes out of every day for Rest and Relaxation. But what we use a lot for all kinds of (sport-)injuries is Triggerpoint Therapy.

We’ve had some amazing results in our practices using Triggerpoint Therapy. In example: Patients with epicondylitis, an injury to the tendons attached to the elbow, who have had physiotherapy for over 3 years, were able to relief the pain almost completely. And in time most of them healed for the full 100 % and were able to take up the sports they had to forfeit for years!

Triggerpoint Therapy is a proven therapy wich focusses on the treatment of myofascial (NOT myofacial) pain points with a form of massage. At first the therapist will find these points for you and treat them. When you learn how to find them you will also be able to treat them yourself. If you learn to use Triggerpoint Therapy you would not only get a treatment every week (except on holidays), but every moment you experience pain!

Now what can Triggerpoint Therapy do for you? Offcourse  this depends on your injury. The best thing would be if you consult a physician who is experienced in Triggerpoint Therapy near you.

But remenber: it is a form of self-treatment! You canb learn how to apply these techniques to relief pain and to promote the healing process. If there is no therapist near you, or if you just want to try it you can learn it form from the book by Clair and Amber Davies. You can buy it on Amazon.  If you buy The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook through this link, you’re also supporting this blog.

Hi Amy, thanks for your reaction. I’m also going to write about how you can combine acupuncture points with triggerpoint therapy. Probably sometime next month. Hope you will like that too.
